HOW ROSÉ GETS ITS COLORIt’s not a blend

It’s not a blend

Nearly all of the rosé on this trail is made from red grapes crushed and then left on their skins for a few hours — long enough to pull color, not long enough to pull much tannin. Pull the juice off early and you get pale and mineral; leave it longer and you get deeper pink with more fruit. Same grape, same vineyard, different clock. Mixing red and white wine together is a different thing entirely, and outside Champagne it is rarely how it’s done.
